Abstract

Orphanages are social institutions that have an important role in providing protection, education, and guidance to children who are neglected or economically, socially, or in a family situation that is unable to provide sufficient attention. However, the challenges in providing effective guidance for children in orphanages are often the focus of attention of researchers and practitioners in the field of child welfare. The Islamic Media Kasih Orphanage in Banda Aceh City was established to improve the social welfare of orphans. The formulation of the problem in this study is What is the form of guidance for foster children and What is the pattern of guidance carried out at the Islamic Media Kasih Orphanage in Banda Aceh City? The purpose of this study is to determine the form of foster child development at the Media Kasih Islamic Orphanage in Banda Aceh City and to determine the pattern of development carried out at the Media Kasih Islamic Orphanage in Banda Aceh City. The research approach used in this study is qualitative research with a descriptive analytical type of research. The results of the research that has been conducted at the Media Kasih Islamic Orphanage in Banda Aceh City are Personality development, namely the pattern of foster child social behavior development in building a good personality. Independence development, namely the pattern of foster child social behavior development can increase children's independence. Children are encouraged to take responsibility for their own daily tasks, such as cleaning their rooms or preparing snacks and other things. However, the biggest challenge of this approach is maintaining consistent discipline, which is the main focus of the orphanage administrators.
