OPTIMISME SISWA SMP DALAM PROSES PEMBELAJARAN MATEMATIKA DARING

One of the roles of optimism is to examine how students solve problems in learning mathematics. However, research that reveals students' optimism in learning mathematics boldly is still limited. This study aims to describe the dimensions of student optimism in the process of learning daring mathematics. This study uses a qualitative method. The research subjects consisted of Grade 8 students from a junior high school in Samalanga, Aceh, Indonesia. Subjects were selected purposively based on their ability to raise problems related to mathematics. To examine the dimensions of student optimism, the researcher interviewed subjects with reference to the indicators of optimism put forward by Seligman: permanent bad events, pervasive bad events, personal bad events, permanent good events, pervasive good events, and personal good events. The results showed that students who were highly capable in the math test 3 were optimistic from all dimensions of optimism but one of them was not optimistic on the PMB dimension. Students who are capable of being able to answer math test questions are two people who are not optimistic on the PMB dimension and the other three are not optimistic on that dimension. Low ability students when given test questions, are not optimistic from all dimensions, both good events and bad events. Factors that make students less optimistic in learning, brave teachers tend to give assignments and also the facilities used by students and the way each is used are inadequate.
